"October's Horror"

Chapter One:

October glanced at her watch as she waited for her next client. Fifteen year old Gabi was late for her appointment by ten minutes and October had a feeling this would be another one of those days. October had grown used to Gabi’s smart remarks and her complete refusal that she needed counseling. Gabi’s parents actually thought different. They had explained over the course of a year they had noticed how their daughter was changing. This fact didn’t surprise October but what interested her was when the parents confessed their long term fear that there daughter was dating a teacher.

In the hopes that she would confess to October and October would be able to convince her that it isn’t safe the parents hired her. The only problem with this fact was that October couldn’t really do anything about it if Gabi never showed up for her appointment.

Sighing October picked up the phone and dialed Gabi’s cell number. Three rings passed and then Gabi’s voicemail kicked in. “Hi! This is Gabi and I hope you realize I missed your call. So please do leave a message!”

October sighed into the phone and said “Gabi, its 6 15 you are now fifteen minutes late for your appointment. You know doing this only gets you in further trouble with your parents. I only hope to see you with in the Next 45 minutes. I’m leaving at 7 Gabi. I’m serious.” With those last words October hung up the phone.

Giving into the call of nature she got up from her desk and left her office. She rounded the corner and went straight into the ladies bathroom. In the office she worked in there were four therapists and one secretary. The building was only two floors high and only had about thirty people tops in it at one time. So why on earth did it have separate bathrooms and multiple stalls? October had no clue.

October entered the ladies room and headed for the first stall. She did her business and was out within a minute. Heading to wash her hands she stood in front of the large mirrors. Looking at her reflection she realized that her long jet black hair had fallen out of its tie and the mascara that surrounded her dark green eyes had long worn off. Maybe it was the fact that her clients stressed her out so much that she rubbed her eyes a lot and scratched her head a lot that had her looking like this at the end of the day, but either way it was never good for her business woman appeal.

October began fixing her hair when she realized she was only wearing one earring. Sighing she gave up on the hair and decided maybe today just wasn’t her day. October glanced at her watch to only be disappointed that about ten more minutes had passed. Giving up on all of it she returned to her office and retrieved her jacket and purse.

She went straight into the elevator and straight to the parking lot. She found her sleek black Porsche and jumped right in. Probably leaving early wasn’t a good idea but October cared less. She knew for a fact almost that Gabi wouldn’t show up and she was just plain tired.

With in Twenty minutes she was home and settled. The light on her machine was blinking furiously so she hit play. “You have two unheard messages”

Following the answering machine’s voice was Jonah. “October, October, October tomorrow is October 1 October!” October smiled at the voice mail.

Jonah was October’s younger brother. Jonah was a special child and October held him close to her heart. She had been there nights when he was scared and had seen him grow each year. Jonah was now 21 still living with her parents and still baring the intelligence of a 10 year old. Sometimes it hurt October to watch him struggle for things he should be able to do and learn but other times she adored how much he still tried his best. Jonah was October’s only reason to enjoy September 30th and October 1st. His calls were her cause for smiling.

The second voicemail was from Myracle. “October! October! Why aren’t you home? I’ll be calling later you better answer!” October rolled her eyes at her sister’s message and began taking off her shoes when her door bell sounded. *Buzz, Buzz*

Walking to the intercom she pressed talk and uttered “Who??”

There was a minute silence and then a response that wasn’t very loud but was very clear. “Gabi”

Confused she opened the door for Gabi and waited for her to enter her floor in the elevator. October lived in a flat that occupied most of the floor. There was two Flats in each other floors and five floors. Her flat was among one of the biggest and she was the only tenant that didn’t have a family or a husband. This fact she carried high with herself. She wasn’t ashamed of being very single and successful. She wasn’t ashamed of being able to afford a flat big enough for a family all by herself.

The elevator doors opened up and Gabi stepped out with a hand bag in her hands and a sweater in the other. Gabi was wearing her usual jeans and a T-shirt. Her hair was distorted and messy which caught October’s attention because last she saw hair like that was when she went on a double date with her sister to the movies and at the end of the movie because her sister had made out the entire time she had hair just like that.

Gabi saw her and dropped everything she held in her hands and hugged her. She hugged her tight and began crying. October completely confused just stood there holding Gabi waiting for her to gather herself together and start explaining what was going on. Standing there for two minutes finally Gabi pulled away and wiped her face. She picked up her things and headed for October’s condo flat.

October followed her and closed the door. She let Gabi settle into the living room while she retrieved some hot coco. The coco was done with in five minutes and October handed it to Gabi while holding her own cup.

“So, tell me Gabi, why you are here?” October said voice calm.

“If I tell you something you are sworn by law to not tell a soul right? I mean its like something you have to do right?” Gabi said completely concerned.

“Yes.”

“Ok , so if I tell you something you wont tell anyone? Not even my parents?”

“Yes Gabi now tell me what you want to”

“Ok…” There was a minute where Gabi stared at her coco then said “I’m sort of dating my teacher… At first it was amazing because he’s a great guy. Only today… He went up my shirt. I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m so confused.”

“Gabi you do know that you aren’t supposed to be dating your teacher right? It’s against the law. How old is your teacher? If he touched you and you didn’t like it that’s called molestation.”

“No, no, no. I didn’t tell him not to I was just surprised so I didn’t say anything… I’m just so confused. Guys never touched me there. I know but you can’t tell any one and I like him I do and he doesn’t act like other guys and he’s sweet. Oh, I just don’t know.”

“Want to know what I think?” October asked Gabi.

Gabi nodded her head. “I think that you know exactly what you are feeling. I think you know exactly why you cried outside. Just admit it. I’m here to listen and you can say anything to me because I won’t judge you. I’ll only tell you what I think and what I think you should do. Now Gabi… Why are you so worried?”

Gabi’s lip trembled for a second until finally she batted out “I’m not ready for sex! I’m not ready for sex and what if next time he won’t feel me he’ll want sex?? What do I do?!” Gabi cried holding her face in her hands.

“Gabi have you ever considered that maybe this is why you aren’t supposed to date older guys? Older guys are way more mature then girl and they demand different things. Possibly he might want more next time; possibly you won’t be able to do anything about it because he will just take it as he pleases. Either way Gabi you need to understand the dangers of dating some one so much older then yourself. As he is a teacher he could loose his job for this. Break off the relationship Gabi. It’s the best thing to do.” October told her hoping her words would reach her.

“But I love him.”

“It’s not love you aren’t going to find again Gabi.” She said meaning every word she uttered.

Of course she had once had a crush on her own teacher and of course she herself had experienced young love. So of course she had also learned how hypnotizing it could be but first and foremost she had learned how fake it was and how replaceable it could be. Gabi nodded her head and stayed quiet. Together they sat there for a minute or two just dwelling on October’s words.

“Well,” October finally said. “I have to call your parents now. I am sure they are sickly worried.”

October got up and called her parents. She heard there sigh of relief when she had told them that Gabi was there and heard their frustration when they said they’d be there to get her soon.
******************************************

Kristian Carter couldn’t believe what his niece was doing. Gabi was causing so many problems. She was only fifteen and already she was implanting grey hairs in her thirty-two-year-old mother. Jumping out of the elevator he stepped into the hall way glancing from door to door. He looked for the numbers on the door that implied which one was flat number 3b. After a minute of pondering, one of the doors swung open and a woman dressed in slacks and a button up dress shirt stepped out of the doorway. Her hair was as black as night and her eyes seemed of furious green. Knowing the look of frustration probably had been caused by Gabi he nodded his head at her and stepped closer the door way that led to the flat.

Holding out his hand he said “Kristian Carter. I’m here to pick up Gabi”

The woman shook his hand and said “Nice to meet you. I’m October, October Bennet. I’m Gabi’s therapist.” She let go of his hand and signaled for him to come in.

Kristian walked in slowly taking in the surroundings. The condo seemed extremely big and the home its self felt cold. The lighting was dim and the walls were colored and dark boring white. Looking side to side he quickly assessed the kitchen as a regular kitchen with nothing out of the ordinary and moved onto the living room. The living room on the other hand looked as thought it had been used. There were two cups on the table and playing cards scattered. As he began studying other parts of the living room his train of thought was interrupted by October. Who had closed the door behind him and was watching him.

“She’s right, you do have that whole cop-glare thing going on.” She told him pointing at his face.

“Yeah, well it comes with the job I’m sorry.” He said.

“No reason to be sorry. There are times where I catch myself with this look of complete
cold solid nothingness. I know I’m not doing it on purpose... It’s just most times that’s the look I must put on so that when my clients tell me something my looks don’t show any emotions they misinterpret for what I am actually thinking…” Kristian nodded his head. “But anyway, Gabi is in the bathroom. She won’t come out… Once you said it was Kristian on the intercom she flew into some kind of fit and ran into the bathroom. Guess she’s scared of you”

As the man of little words that he was he nodded his head and said “She’s not the first to be scared of me… Where’s the bathroom?”

October pointed toward a small hall where there stood a streak of light at the bottom of the doorway illuminating the floor. He walked to the door and knocked. Knocked again and waited two seconds. Finally he knocked on the door and said “Gabi, it would probably be best if you just open up the door and we go home now. Don’t make this hard”

After two seconds past Gabi opened the door and stepped out starring at the floor, her head bowed down in shame. Kristian watched as Gabi collected her things and walked toward the door. She simply waved at October then walked out of the apartment.

“Thanks a lot” He said shaking October’s hand. “She could have been out some where dangerous but she wasn’t so thanks.”

October smiled and followed him to the door. As soon as he stepped out the door closed behind him and he stood in front of the elevators with Gabi. Tension was in the air and Kristian had not thought of a way to begin the talk he promised he’d have with Gabi.

Truly he trusted Gabi and didn’t feel the need to meddle in her problems. Only because of the amount of worry and stress it had brought John and Debra he now felt responsible for talking to Gabi and taking the lead uncle role.

With in ten minutes Gabi and Kristian were completely set to take off toward Gabi’s parents’ house. The drive was slow and the car was quiet, this time seeming the best to question Gabi.

“So Gabi, Mind telling me what is going on in your life?” Kristian said making a turns and tightening his grip on the steering wheel.

“I knew it! I knew that they called on you to talk to me. Ugh, they know I can’t lie to you! Uncle Kristian I love you I really do but I don’t want to talk about it. If there is anyone I least want to talk to about it is with you. I’ve got a therapist… I’m fine”

“Actually according to the grey hairs on your father’s mustache you haven’t been going to your appointments. “ Kristian said.

“I know but things are going to be different I swear” Gabi said her body completely turned toward Kristian. Her voice was demanding and it seemed to also be pleading with him. It was a voice he had some what grown used to. When you arrest someone they tend to plead with you.

“Ok well you haven’t proved to be responsible enough to go on your own. So your parents and I have agreed to me taking you and picking you up from your appointments ok?”

“NO!” she said slamming her hand on the desk. Kristian didn’t approve of her slamming and screaming no so he gave her a warning glare. “I’m sorry” she said “and I’m fine with you picking me up and carrying me away.” Kristian ignored the last part partially because he wasn’t in the mood to argue and also because she mumbled it.

Kristian kept quiet the rest of the drive. He really didn’t feel the need to talk anymore and he was looking forward to ending the long night. Today had been a crazy day for him. He had been at a bank withdrawing money when a robber had stepped in. In the middle of trying to control the situation Kristian had taken a hard knock to the rib cage with a gun. His body ached and all he wanted was the night to be over.

Kristian pulled his car into the long drive way at his sister’s house and turned off the car. He looked at Gabi shrugged and opened the car door. He got out and waited for Gabi to come around the car. Once she rounded the corner of the car Kristian was on his way toward the door.

Before he could ring the bell the door flew open and Debra came running out to greet Gabi. “My God Child! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!” Debra said hugging Gabi. “Don’t let this hug fool you because I am VERY angry at you I’m just glad that you are ok”

Kristian shook his head cleared his throat catching Debra’s attention. “Look,” he said “It’s been a hard day and I’d love to stick around but I am honestly too tired.”

“Oh, well that’s fine. Thanks for the help Kris” Kristian nodded his head at his sister’s words and headed back for his car. He jumped in and turned on the ignition. Finally the night would come to an end.

Once in the car, settled and on his way home he began thinking about Gabi’s therapist. She was extremely beautiful and looked intelligent. The flat she owned was huge so he guessed that she was married. Thinking more about it he thought about how angry October probably had been when Gabi had came waltzing into her home interrupting their night. Deciding it was probably a smart thing to do he told himself that he would apologize the next day.
