"October's Horror"

Chapter Ten

October smiled as she unloaded yet another bag of candy into their large bucket. This was in fact the only Halloween that she had ever been so excited about. Grabbing another snicker bar she smiled. Her diet was over. Myracle had attended the last pool party of the season at the play boy bunny home and said that she was done with dieting. Halloween had just had its perfect timing. Eating the bar she turned to the door that had just opened. Looking at Kristian she nearly spit out her food. She laughed hard and his smirk grew every minute. Of course he couldn’t resist laughing either.

“Kristian I was kidding about the peter pan thing. I thought you were going to be a cop as your costume?” October asked holding in her laughter in order to be able to speak and breath.

“Well, I didn’t want Tinker Bell to be with out a Peter Pan.” He said sweetly. October shook her head and put down her snicker bar. She walked slowly to Kristian shaking her head at his outfit. Reaching him she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him close to her body. “I’d dress as peter pan everyday for a hug like this. Is there an occasion?”

“Technically this is out first date. We really did no dating while everything was figured out with Gaby. Everything is finally set and all we’re waiting for is the court date to come. So now we can date in peace with out anything mentally taking over. Besides… How many times does a guy dress as peter pan for his girlfriend? You’re even wearing tights.” October smiled wide and proud. She had a great man in her arms.

Suddenly the door bell sounded and October smiled. She grabbed her wand and the bowl of candies and walked to the door. “Trick or treaters so early!” She opened the door to three kids and a parent. One of them wore a mask that resembled Frankenstein, the other seemed to be the angel of death but the last was a small little girl. She was dressed as a fairy. “Look Kristian!” October said excited.

“You all look great.” She told the children “I especially love your outfit” she said to the small girl as she loaded her bag with candy.

“I’m a fairy. Are you a fairy also?” the small child asked.

October looked down at her sparkly outfit and looked back at her wings. Nodding her head she told the girl “Why yes I am. This here is my peter pan.” October pointed at Kristian and Kristian nodded his head.

The little girl simply said “Wow…” and moved on with the rest of the crew. The children had just started coming. Smiling and shaking her head more she closed her door hoping it wouldn’t be long till the next one.

“You are very excited.” Kristian said to her smiling. He fiddled a little with the bowl in her hand then took it from her and placed it on the table.

“This is just all so fun. I can’t believe I’m spending Halloween with you.” October laughed “It’s funny because I have always completely hated the month of October. I hated everything about it. I think now the month of October has become my confused month. See I met this wonderful guy in this month… But so much more happened that it could be labeled as a very bad month.”

“How do you know I’m so wonderful?” he said stepping closer to her and pinning her against the wall. “How do you know that the rightful name of this month shouldn’t be… October’s Horror?”

“Because…” she paused. “If this...” she kissed his lips softly. “Is horror… Well then scare me till I turn white. I think I’m addicted.” For a second they each stared at each other until there was a sound of the doorbell. October smiled and pointed at the bowl of candies.

“You know what I noticed? You do a whole lot of pointing.” He said shaking his head and retrieving the bowl of candy.

****************************************

The very next morning Kristian’s eyes popped open at the feel of October turning over in his lap. Looking down her head still rested in his lap and the rest of her body sprawled out on the couch. Rubbing his eyes he groaned and checked the time. It was ten. Looking down at October she stared up at him with one eye open. Her beautiful green eye staring at him. He smiled and just then October turned over and reached for something on the floor. Turning back to him both her eyes were open and she was smiling. She raised her hand to his face and said “Dare ya to eat one more tootsie roll.” She whispered.

Shaking his head he hit her hand away with the tootsie roll and said “No... No more candy!” he said to her laughing. October sat up and moved closer to him resting her head now on his shoulder.

“You know…” she said “I don’t usually let a guy stay over on the first date but it just seems that you like sleeping here very much. It’s hard to get rid of you, you know?” she said smiling.

“You aren’t getting rid of me I’ll tell you that now. Might as well just move in because October you are stuck with me.” He said smiling down at her discarding what ever care he had for morning breath.

“Talk about October’s Horror…” with those words October reached for his lips meeting them with hers. Savoring his taste and hoping to live a lifetime with it.

"Octobers Horror"

Chapter Nine

The car ride to October’s home was a thrill. All the ride October worried about Gabi. She thought about it and tried to figure out what was going through the young one’s mind. How could any of this happen? She herself had talked to her and the teen seemed harmless. How could she go out a kill some one? For a minute she worried that Debra was imagining it all. Her theory was proved wrong when just before they were set to leave Debra came flying down the steps with a diary.

The diary was an interesting thing to read. The writer in the diary did not say her name was Gabi but choose to be referred to as Angry Anne. October wondered how Gabi felt when she turned into Angry Anne. Sure enough October realized that this could possibly mean that Gabi had grown a second personality. She decided to set it aside for now as she was speeding down the streets going 70 mph.

October wasn’t worried about hitting any one because she had driven faster then this in worst condition. It was times like this she thanked god for ever making her date the NASCAR driver Derek. Derek was a big mistake but the lessons she got from him weren’t. Glancing at Kristian whose face had turned white she sighed and slowed down. She made the last and final turn onto her street and stopped dead in front of her building. Sitting there for two silent seconds she finally unbuckled. “Ok, this is the plan. We find her we keep her calm. Don’t make her angry that could be a trigger.”

“What if she’s already angry?” Kristian asked.

“Try your hardest to get Gabi back.” She said opening the door and jumped out. She trotted into the building and went straight for the elevator. Both of them took the elevator to her floor and exited quickly. October removed her keys from her pocket and stepped closer to her door. As she stepped more she realized she had stepped into a puddle that was pouring out from under her door. Kneeling down Kristian smelled the liquid, “Gas” he said.

Seriously worried she hurried to open the door. As she got the final lock open she swung the door open and a bucket came flying through the air, its contents drenching October in what smelled like gas also. Scared she heard Kristian scream no. Looking around she spotted where the bucket came from only to see Gabi smiling with a liter in her hands.

“GABI NO!!” Kristian screamed. Stepping back October stood speechless. The next few seconds could change her life for ever. “Please, Gabi no. Stop being angry. “

“I don’t want to. I’m tired of not being angry. Why can’t I be angry? Don’t tell me what to do uncle Kristian.” She replied

“Why are you angry at October? What did she do to you?” He questioned.

“What didn’t she do? She started it all. She messed up Gabi’s life. She told her… me to talk to Zee. I didn’t want to. Then he left me. He got a new girlfriend. He called GABI CRAZY!!!!” She yelled.

“Angry Anne GO AWAY.” October said. “I don’t like you. I like Gabi.”

“I don’t care what you like!” Gabi said in a loud tone raising her hand and popping the liter open. Just as she was about tot throw the liter Kristian screamed no and charged at her. There was a lot of stumbling and the floor lit on fire. Scared and confused October wanted to help she wanted to pull Gabi off of Kristian and help him but how could she with out going up in flames.

“OCTOBER RUN!” Came Kristian’s voice. It was then that she saw the fire spreading and racing its way toward her. Stunned she ran out of the apartment and into the stairwell. She shut the door behind her and leaned against it as she saw the smoke in the hall way. She felt completely helpless. She knew there was nothing she could do but she felt she had to do something. Reaching into her pocket she dialed her neighbor’s number. When her neighbor answered she yelled “FIRE!!!! Get something to put it out and fast!” Hanging up she dialed 911. She hoped with all her heart it wasn’t too late.

*************************************

Staring at the flames and feeling the heat Kristian tried his best to hold onto his niece and find a way out. The door was no longer and option and he saw the living room go up in flames. Opening the bedroom door he closed it behind him. “This should buy us some time” He said breathless as he had already inhaled much smoke.

Looking around the room he spotted an open window. “Stay close to the ground. Smoke is still seeping into the cracks of the door and this is the best place to stay. Follow me to the window. We’ll go down the fire escape.” He said grabbing her hand.

In a minute they reached the window and Kristian directed Gabi to go out first. The heat was intense and the smoke amount had increased extremely quickly. He wondered is October was ok. He feared that the fire had reached her. How could his niece do all of this? She was simply a teenager.

“No.” Gabi said. “Uncle I don’t want to go.” She said. He could hear the door crackling as the fire fought to get in. Gabi sounded angry and he was unsure of what to say.

“If you don’t go now Gabi we’re going to die.” He said his tone hard and serious.

“I think I killed some one. I think there’s something wrong with me. My head hurts. The world goes black on me and every time I wake up I have to clean a mess up. This is a big mess Uncle Kristian. I don’t know if I could clean this one.” She said her tone soft once more.

“Gabi… don’t worry. You won’t have to clean it up on your own. We’ll all help you.” Gabi lunged at him and hugged him hard causing him to fall off the ledge and onto the fire escape. Getting up quickly he tried his best to close the window. He rushed Gabi down the creaky steps and each of them slowly jumped down from it. In the ally they looked up at the building. The window was black and smoke had completely entered the room. “Come on” he said as he heard the sirens and remembered that he still wasn’t sure October was ok. He didn’t know what he would do if she hadn’t made I tout. Possibly it could already be to late.

Walking around to the entrance he entered the building and decided it would be safer to take the steps. In the stairwell climbing up the steps he heard sobs. He hoped it was October. He didn’t like that she was crying but crying meant she was still alive and possibly not injured. Reaching the second floor he came in sight of October. She sat there her head buried in her arms and knees crying. She looked unharmed but very wet. “October” he said gaining her attention. Surprised she jumped up and ran to him. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her as close to himself as possible.

October kissed his neck and cheek softly multiple times as they stood there in each other’s arms. He held her for a minute before realizing that the building was still on fire. ”Come on” He whispered in her ear. “Let’s get out of here.” Kristian led the way out of the building and all three watched with all the tenants as the building bleed smoke from its windows. They watched firemen as they worked to tame the fire. 45545

It wasn’t till an hour later did the fire men have the fire under control. The entire time he stood with October who had insisted that she wanted to watch. She said she owed it to the home to stand by until it was all over. The entire time she stood with a blanket wrapped around her. He could only imagine how cold she felt with the October breeze blowing as she stood there still wet from the gas thrown on her.

Many things ran threw his mind but many things he wished he didn’t think of. One of the many things that he didn’t want to think about were Gabi. What would come of her? She had committed many things while she was Angry Anne that could not be undone. She had killed two people and committed arson. From what he heard nobody was hurt from the fire except for major smoke inhalation. The young girl had even committed animal cruelty. What could they do now?

“Uncle Kristian” Gabi said to him. Turning to her he signaled that she had his attention. “I told the cops what I did. They want to take me away. They say I’ll wait in jail until everything is figured out.”

Sighing he let go of October and pulled Gabi away from every one. “You remember what you did?” He asked. “Because we believe you have something wrong with you mentally Gabi. If that’s so you couldn’t control yourself and it’s not entirely your fault.”

“I black out Uncle Kristian. The world goes black and I don’t know what’s going on. I’m not me anymore. It’s scary” She said. “But I still want to go wit the police. Kristian… I killed some one. Two some ones. I want to be in a place that they could control me.” Gabi glanced down and looked up. “Please”

**************************************

Sitting in the back of police car Gabi sat hand cuffed. She practiced her breathing and focused on staying calm. She felt the rage rush through her blood and she felt signs that she knew meant it was happening. She worried who she would hurt next because she knew that now the only person who she could get angry at was herself. She did this all to herself and she destroyed lives on the way down. It was all her fault.

Sighing once more she closed her eyes. She tried to relax but the images still haunted her. The memory of her clothes covered in Zee’s blood. The fear in October’s eyes as she ran away from the fire… It was all so over whelming. She wanted it all to go away.

It was times like this she wondered why. Before she had went to October’s she had visited a church. She went into the confessional and confessed of all things she had done. She had even confessed about her plans. Oddly the priest did not judge her. He told her that all will turn out the way it was planned. He told her that her life would be better so long as all of her actions were in the path of Christ. Then she had no intention of following his orders but as she thought about it now it seemed that god would be the only one there for her.

She could only imagine how angry her parents would be... How ashamed of her they would feel. She wondered how this all happened to her. She wondered what would happen next. Bowing her head down tears flowed down her cheeks as she prayed. She prayed for strength and to be forgiven. She prayed for the power to later salvage her life.

*************************************

Sitting at her kitchen counter Debra rubbed her still flat stomach. Her baby was in there. She wondered what she was going to do. Her abortion was already set up planned for and paid for. She had it set up for no one to find out but now that some one had known she wondered if she could go through with it. She still was unsure if John even knew she was pregnant. As if on cue John walked into the kitchen. He stared at her for a minute then stepped closer. Wrapping his arms around her he held her there. He kissed her forehead and laid a hand on her stomach.

In his arms she let out the tears she had fought back for the last half hour. She held onto him tight. He was her armor and strength. He was the reason she could last another day in this world. Now that she thought about it she realized that this was his child also. It was like a piece of him inside of her stomach. Of course she had thought of all of this during her first pregnancy but never had she once considered an abortion the first time. Suddenly a sound broke her thought process.

It was the sound of John sucking in air. Looking up she found a man whose face had sorrow written on it. His eyes for the first time ever had tears in them. His face showed his pain and he did not look at her. “Don’t do it... Please” he said rubbing her stomach once more.

Debra was lost of all words and for a second she held her breath. She had never seen him like this. He was always strong and never had he ever broke down like this. It hurt her more then ever to see him like this. How could she do this to him? Of course she couldn’t now. She couldn’t ever. Paid for or not this abortion would not happen.

**************************************

“Wow… It’s so tiring being covered in gas. Always have to worry about where the fire is. It’s hard on a girl you know?” October said hoping she would break the tense moment in Kristian’s car with humor.

“Yeah... It’s been a long day you know. I’m just glad it’s all over. We won’t have to worry about Gaby for a while. It’s going to be a long and hard process getting everything worked out.”

“Yes that it will be. You know what the worst of it all is?” October questioned Kristian.

“Hit me” he said to her.

“I didn’t get to go into a pool.” She said smiling at him.

Kristian smiled back and started up the car. He looked at her for a bit then pulled out of the parking spot they were in. He drove for about twenty minutes until they pulled up to Debra and john’s home. Shaking her head she knew exactly what he was going to suggest. “No…” she said “we can’t”

Kristian jumped out of the car and came to her side where she was already out of the car. “Come on!” he said running to the back of the home. October followed him and watched him quietly open the gate door. Standing in front of the pool Kristian looked at her. She watched him take his shirt off and shoes. “Well… don’t you want to get all that gas off of you?” he asked after winking. Before she knew it he was lunging himself into the pool. Laughing she shook her head and looked up at the sky. What was she to do with this man?

Quickly October took off her sandals and jumped into the water. Rising from the bottom of the water she looked around the dark pool. Searching for his face she squinted into the night. “marko?” she said.

“Polo” came a response from behind her. Laughing she turned around and found her Kristian. Sighing she swam to him. His arms embraced her and he kissed her. His kiss was soft and fast. Looking into his beautiful blue eyes she smiled. She loved his eyes. They were in fact her favorite type of blue. Dark and sexy. Sighing she used her hand to brush back some of his short hairs. At first look it seemed like nothing good had came of this horrible month but if you actually paid attention as October did. The greatest thing came from this. Kristian.

“October’s Horror”

Chapter Eight

“Ok I brought burger buns hot dog buns burgers and hot dogs chips and sodas. I even got cake. Are you sure you want to do this? It’s only ten so we could still cancel.” Kristian asked his sister setting the last of the shopping bags on the table.

“I’m sure. If there’s anything this family needs is a normal barbeque. Fun times and a group of people in the pool acting a fool.” Debra said.

“Yes, and I can’t wait to barbeque. There’s something I just love about a grill.” John said from behind Kristian.

“Ok… Well I’m going to go back home and shower. Collect my trunks and some extra clothes. I’ll see you around 12.” He said kissing his sister quickly on the top of her head and rushing out of the house.

Jumping into his car he put on his seat belt and pulled out of the driveway. Not caring about the law he pulled out his phone and called October. “Hello.” Said October’s voice.

“Hello beautiful, are you ready for a barbeque?” He asked smiling.

“Yes I am. Are you?” she replied.

“For sure. I just can’t wait to see you. You know we haven’t set a date for out first REAL date.” He said.

“DATE?! Whoa buddy, I have a boyfriend. Plus I don’t think October would enjoy me dating her male friend. I think she might have her eye on you.”

Confused he said “What?”

The female laughed and said “This is Myracle. The twin sister. Yeah… October kind of just got out of the shower. She’s telling me to give her the phone… But I think I prefer to… RUN!” there was some screaming in the back ground and lots of ruffling. There was some name calling until he heard a large thump and then a breathless voice say “hello? Kristian?”

“Yes.”

“It’s October… Sorry about the pest…. Don’t worry I have her pinned to the floor she wont bug us anymore.” She said giggling.

“Ok, well don’t do too much harm. You are on the phone with a police officer.” He told her teasing.

“Will do... anyway... what’s this I heard about you dating my sister Mister?” she questioned.

“I kind of thought she was you. But you should know I wouldn’t want to date you sister... she’s nothing like you. The woman I like. “

“That’s great to know. You should know you’re the man I like.” Kristian’s smile widened at the words she had just said. Not in a million years would he have thought such a beautiful woman would utter those words to him.

“Good. So I’m guessing with your sister there you wont need a ride?” He said to her.

“Actually I would be more comfortable in your car with you seeing as how my sister has one of those cars that the backseat can barely fit a dog. I really don’t want to ride back seat.” She explained to him.

“Ok, well I’ll pick you up and your sister and her boyfriend can follow. How is one for you?” He asked.

“That sounds good. Can’t wait.”

“Ok, see you then. Bye.” With that he hung up.

********************************************

“Can you get off of me now?” Myracle asked as she struggled under October. “Obviously you aren’t following the diet… god”

October smile down at her sister. She stood sitting on her and holding her arms away with on hand. “This looks kind of kinky. I always wanted to know what it would look like when twins turned on each other.” Said Brian Myracle’s date.

“Oh shut up.” Both Myracle and October said. October rose and helped her sister up. They both brushed off the clothes they knew didn’t have dust on it and sat on the couch. “So what do we do till one?” October asked her sister.

“Movie?” October nodded her head and reached for the remote. Together they flipped through HBO and SHOWTIME channels surfing for a good movie. Finally they found a good Jim Carrey movie and settled in. For the next two hours they watched “Liar,Liar”

During the two hours October watched Myracle and Brian cuddle and hold hands. She had trouble not thinking about Kristian. She wished that she could do the exact same thing to him. She wanted to be with him and call him hers. She wanted so bad to be his and only his. She thought about their first date and wondered where they would go.

She assumed dinner would be appropriate but so would a movie. Would dinner and a movie be too much? How would he act? It was to her knowledge that many people acted different in date. Their voice involuntarily changed and their responses to questions were always in the train of thought of how it would sound and not what they actually wanted to say. October knew she would act different because she was only human but she never pretended. She never changed who she was and her opinions on things.

Most dates she worried if the man she was going out with her had different opinions on woman. From what she had observed it seemed to her Kristian had no problems with a woman having a job. October honestly hated men who thought women should be house wives. It was repulsive and usually those men were ego statistic belligerent assholes. She refused to deal with them.

Just as she began to think more about Kristian and the way he came off to her she realized she was to date him not analyze him. It was in its self perfect timing because just then the credits to the movie began playing along with bloopers. Laughing at the goof the Jim Carrey was she shut the T.V. off. It was twelve thirty and Kristian would be here in a half hour.

“Ok well what now? Why do we have to wait for him? Why can’t we just go?” Myracle asked.

“Calm down. You need to grow some patience. We have to wait for him because it’s rude to just show up when we agreed on waiting for him. Did you bring towels?” October replied.

“No...”

“Well, how about you go in my closet and get some towels. I’ll bag all the chips and soda I’m bringing and then Brian and you can go down stairs and pack it into the car. That should waist at least a good twenty minutes. By the time you get back up towels and clothes will be packed up and ready to go and I’ll call Kristian to ask him where he is.” October directed.

“Fine.” Myracle said.

Twenty five minutes later all was packed and ready to go. Kristian was already there and all October had to do was lock up her apartment. Locking the last lock she sighed and turned toward the elevator. She rode the elevator alone down stairs and exited the building. She smiled at Kristian in the car and nodded at her sister in the car behind him. This was life. A barbeque with her almost boyfriend and her sister. Jumping into the car she reached over and kissed Kristian in the cheek. She buckled up and signaled for him to go.

“My sister is in the car back there with her boyfriend. This should be entertaining.” October said smiling.

“What makes you say that?” Kristian questioned.

“It’s just been known that Myracle and I put together are witty... add a guy and you got yourself a T.V. show.” October laughed at the past memories she had with Myracle and her dates. She prayed this wouldn’t go bad.

“Sounds like something I can look forward to.” He said to her nodding his head.

“Yeah, oh and I’ve also been meaning to ask you how Gabi is. Is everything ok with her?” October asked real concern in her heart for the young girl. It seemed being a teen was taking its turn on Gabi.

“I think we should talk about that at the end of the day. Debra says I shouldn’t mention it but I feel you deserve to know. So… Later ok?” He asked her reaching for her hand and giving it a small squeeze. October nodded her head in response and hoped it wasn’t that back. She wondered what could be so bad that they would want to count her out.

Finally they reached the house and October got out of the car. She Grabbed bags from each trunk including the beverages and chips she brought and headed inside with her sister and Brian behind her. Each of them followed Kristian out to the back yard where John stood in front of the grill. Debra lay on a bed float in the large pool they owned. She seemed relaxed.

The pool itself was about twenty feet long and looked 5 feet deep. The land around it and beyond it was covered in healthy grass. There were three tables with umbrellas attached to each of them. There were many chairs to go with the three tables and the hole set looked cozy. October hoped maybe one day she’d have a family with such a comfortable look to it.

Soon enough Debra spotted them and floated her way to the edge of the in ground pool. She got off and greeted each of them with a hug. “It’s great to have you guys over. You guys should all change and jump in. The water is pretty good.” She said to them smiling. ”Kristian can I talk to you?” she added. Kristian nodded and both of them stepped away and into the house.

***************************************

“What do you mean she’s gone?” Kristian questioned in a tone of yelling. “She can’t be gone. Where could she be? Did you call her cell? How did she leave?”

“Kristian calm down before some one hears you. I didn’t want our guest to feel out of sort or worry. Let’s keep this to ourselves for now. I just think you should go out quiety and look for her.”

“I can’t leave. I invited October and her sister it would be rude to leave.” He protested.

“Forget rude here my daughter is out there doing god knows what with god knows who!”

“Shhh… the guests remember?” Kristian said in a mocking tone. Taking a breath he said “why are you so worried? She’s been out before. I say we let her be. She hasn’t left that room since… since yesterday. Maybe some air will do her good.”

“No... Kristian you can’t let her be. She’ll do it again.” Debra said her eyes looking a bit watery.

“Do what?” Kristian just couldn’t understand what she was getting too.

“KILL SOME ONE!!!!” Debra yelled. Just then there was a clunk and both Debra and Kristian looked to see October standing there open mouthed and her bag on the floor. “Kristian, I saw it all. I saw it all! I saw her take our cat and hurt him. I smelled the smoke in her clothes from bombing her car!” She yelled pointing at October. “I found the bloody clothes in the garbage!! I know she killed her teacher because I have hid in the closet as I watched in fear as my own daughter change into a monster!” Crying completely now Debra fell to her knees and held her stomach. She sobbed and she did what seemed to be prayers. Looking up at Kristian with red eyes she said “I only hope god forgives me for ever having her. If I’d ever known this would happen I’d correct it like I will tomorrow.”

Shaking his head and completely confused Kristian knelt down and wrapped an arm around his sister. “What do you mean correct? What are you going to do tomorrow?” Hoping he wasn’t correct about what he thought his sister was telling him.

“I’m pregnant. But I’m going to fix it. I won’t let this world have to worry about another monster. No more teachers will die from this one. No one will. This one will never write diary entries about torching some ones home!” Turning to October she got up and held her shoulders. “I’m so sorry about your apartment October.” Debra hugged the stunned and confused October.

“Debra… Gabi hasn’t done anything to my apartment.” October said slowly in Debra’s ear.

“But she will.” Debra whispered.

"October's Horror"

Chapter seven

October woke with her head resting on a pillow and a blanket drawn over her. Hugging the pillow closer to her face she smiled as she remembered falling asleep on top of Kristian. Taking a sniff of the air she smelled coffee and her eyes popped open. Sitting up she looked back at the kitchen that her couch faced opposite too. Looking at the table lied a single coffee cup labeled with STARBUCKS in green letters. Getting up she rushed to the table and picked up the coffee. Taking a sip she looked down at the letter that the coffee had been on top of.

Hey October,

Sorry about last night. I guess I drifted away. I don’t know what kind of coffee you like so it’s a regular with three scoops of sugar like mine. See you tomorrow at the barbeque.

Kristian

October took another sip of the coffee and took her time tasting it. She wasn’t picky about coffee but it was different then her extra sugared coffee. She had a thing with adding lots of sweetener to her coffee. It was always very sweet but completely sugarless. This tasted good in a different way and she loved that she was drinking a coffee like Kristian. In an odd way it made her feel special.

The coffee tasted rather cool and so October put it in the microwave. While her coffee reheated she checked the time and realized it was nine meaning that Kristian had probably left around eight or so. He was an early riser. Brushing her teeth and fixing her hair she reached for the phone. She called in her secretary to check in about her schedual and the sessions she had today. She confirmed she would be there and told her a thanks. Hanging up the phone she dialed Kristian next. Hearing his answer after the first three rings October smiled.

“How are you?” She asked.

“I’m fine. How are you? Anyone bomb anything else while I was gone?” He asked in a tone she knew he was smiling.

“Nope… not that I know of. Anyway, I wanted to ask you if they found anything out about my car bomber. I also wanted to know if you were doing anything oh say around… 10 30.”

“That’s a negative on both of them. I’m free ten thirty why?” He asked.

“I kind of need a ride to work seeing as how I no longer have a car and I really, really, REALLY don’t want to call my sister because she’s all on this diet thing that I’m trying to avoid.” October said.
“What if I don’t want to give you a ride?” Kristian said surprising her.

“Then your don’t have to. But you would break my heart and I am kind of pleading here.”

“Well, just maybe since your pleading….”

“Kristian!”

“Ok, ok. I’ll be there for sure. Ten thirty on the dot. Be ready.” He said.

“Thanks lots.” She said then hanging up.

Laughing at the tease that Kristian was she headed to her bathroom. She did the shower thing and got dressed. She fixed her hair up good and took care of the little amount of make up she wanted to wear today. She slipped on her shoes and brought all her things together. All of this done with in an hour and she still had a half hour of time left to waste. Bored she went to her bathroom and began flossing her teeth. She never flossed her teeth but she had nothing better to do. Wasting only five minutes with that she began plucking the few unwanted eyebrow hairs she had.

Time was moving by so slow and ten thirty was just never getting there. Sighing she went to her living room and sat down. She turned on the TV she barely watched and flipped through some channels. Finally she caught an episode of the three stooges and watched it. After thirty minutes of the three men the bell finally rang and she shut the TV off.

In minutes she was down stairs at the door where Kristian awaited her. Smiling at Kristian she said “Hello darling”

“Hi” he said grabbing her hand and holding it in his. Together they walked to his car hand in hand. Finally they reached the car and they were forced to break apart. Opening the door October jumped right in.

Kristian entered the car and turned it on. In a matter of minutes they were on the road. “So… How’s work?” October asked Kristian starting conversation.

“It’s been ok. There’s a new murder case going around. Sounds interesting.” He said.

October wasn’t sure how she felt about him being interested in a murder but she simply brushed it off and asked “Well who was murdered?”

“Oh just some teacher and his girlfriend.” He said making a turn.

“hmmm” was all October said. Two minutes passed and October said “Well, its Friday so I see Gabi today at four.”

“We’ll be here at three forty five.” He said pulling up to her office.

Opening the door she said thanks and was stepping out just as Kristian said “Hey October”

“Yes?” she said turning back to him and ending up extremely close to his face. October looked down at his lips and swallowed hard. Kristian smiled and used one hand to bring her face closer to his and kiss her. The kiss was soft but fast. The kiss said goodbye and see you later all on its own.

“Bye” he said when he finally pulled away.

October did a breathless half wave and closed the car door. She walked in the building and headed for the secretary’s desk.

“I’m dating some one!” She yelled at the stunned secretary.

“Good for you Ms.Bennet.” She replied.

“Well, we haven’t actually went on an actual date but its just one of those things… you know?”

“I guess so… Your eleven O’clock arrived early so I had her wait in your office.” She said flipping through some papers. “Her name is Julian Summers.”

“Oh, yes, Julian I remember her. Thanks. Have a great day and I do hope the head psyche gives you a raise. YOU DESERVE IT!” October said walking away almost at a skiping rate.

“Wow, you should find more dating time if this is what it results in.” The secretary mumbled.

The class room seemed quiet and cold. The world around her moved but she played no role in it as she watched the substitute teacher attempt to calm the class. He spoke but she heard nothing he was saying. Her world had ended this morning when the news caster announced of Zee’s death. She would have thought that most of the school would be shocked and that this news was a turn out in the school uniting in memory of Zee. No such thing happened and it seemed to Gabi that every one carried about there business.

The kids next to her sat on their desk while the kids behind her threw paper balls. These kids did not know Zee like she did. If they had they would each have cried so much this morning that they would look half as troubled as Gabi knew she looked. The world was scary and she could not imagine who would go so far as to kill another human being. Who had the mind to?

Gabi could not control her anger this morning. She yelled at her mother and wished upon her father’s death. The man she loved was now dead. Murdered with the woman he called his girlfriend. Gabi did not regret the woman’s death. She deserved it. The woman was among the many things that caused Zee to leave her. She hoped with all her heart that the woman’s death was as painful as the news caster had described it.

The killer had cut her lips off and stabbed her eight times in the stomach. The killer she heard even went so far as to bite her. It alls sounded sickening but in ways Gabi enjoyed hearing his girlfriend was gone. She only wished that he wasn’t gone. She wanted him back. She needed him back. She wanted to talk to some one about it… She couldn’t wait till four when she got to talk to October.

Then again she thought about it. October had reason to hurt Zee. She had reason because he blew up her car. He harassed her. Maybe October killed Zee. Only Gabi couldn’t see why October would do such things to the girlfriend. Oh how Gabi hated calling her Zee’s girlfriend. She didn’t deserve him like Gabi did. Gabi would have shown him real love.

Snapping back to her surroundings she realized the bell must have rang because kids had long left the class room and the substitute was cleaning the board possibly talking to her. She didn’t care what he was saying she just got up and walked out. School was over and she was ready to go to October.

************************************

Debra picked up the phone. Her fingers trembled as she dialed the numbers. She had to make this call. She couldn’t let October make Gabi even more anger. She’d seen when she was angry and she prayed it never happened again. The phone was answered almost immediately. “Hello” Kristian answered.

“Kristian Gabi’s not going to her thing just bring her home.” She said.

“What? Why?” Kristian said.

“Please just bring her. Please Kristian.” Debra pleaded.

“Fine.” He said hanging up.

This just had to be done. She would lock her daughter up and never let her out. What if she did more? What was she to do when she turned on her? What was she thinking? Gabi wasn’t an animal and here she feared her. The child she raised. Life was so confusing. If Gabi turned into this, what would come of the little one in her womb now? Possibly the little one is just not meant to happen.

Picking up the phone once more she dialed 411. “I need to know about abortion clinics. The nearest one to my home. The fastest one.” She asked the operator tears forming in her eyes. This just had to be done. Right? Dear lord…

**********************************************

Kristian pulled into the driveway and took yet another look at Gabi. Some thing wasn’t right. Gabi seemed drawn into herself. Her eyes were glazed and had bags under them. Her nose was red and the last time he touched her she was stone cold. Her actions seemed mindless and the only time she spoke was in protest against not seeing October. His niece was going through something and he only wished he knew what it was.

Getting out of the car he walked to the porch and rang the bell. Minutes later Debra answered the door and looked much like her daughter. Her nose was just as red and her eyes looked as sad and tired. The house hold seemed quiet. Kristian never could have thought the death of a cat could have done this.

Surprisingly Debra hugged him at the first moment she laid eyes on him and hugged him tight. She sighed when she released him and told him to meet her in the kitchen. Kristian walked away and toward the kitchen but stopped at the living room to listen to Gabi and her mother in the hallway.

“How was your day Gabi?” Debra asked. What sounded like a growl came from Gabi. “Well, maybe you should just speak English. I’m tired of this Gabi. “

“I wanted to see October.” Gabi finally said.

”You’ll see her when you start acting human. You’re acting completely raw and I do not like it. Go to your room and don’t come out till you turn into the daughter I raised.” Debra yelled.

A moment passed and Debra screamed Kristian’s name. Kristian ran into the hall just as Gabi grabbed hold of Debra’s neck and forced her up against the wall. Gabi growled and squeezed harder as tears fell down Debra’s eyes. Kristian rushed and removed Gabi’s hands from her mother’s neck. He held her back and Gabi screamed pushing from Kristian’s grasped trying her hardest to be free from him. Finally Gabi made a last and final scream and collapsed.

Stunned and confused Kristian held Gabi up as he watched his older sister curl on the floor crying. He had no idea what to do or even what had just happened. Dragging Gabi to the living room he put her on a couch and walked back to his sister. He sat next to her and let her cry on his shoulder.

“What’s happening to my baby Kristian?” she whispered in a weak and sad tone. Gulping back air she wasn’t able to breath in before.
“I don’t know. I do know we’ll figure it out. We’ll get help and figure it out.” He said rubbing her back with his hand in a circular motion.

“Kristian?”

“Yeah?” he said his tone soft.

“You’re making me nauseous could you stop rubbing.” She said in a hard tone.

“Right” he said stopping his hand and just sitting there. Things just kept getting even more confusing.
*******************************************

It was Five O’clock and no sign of Kristian or Gabi. Shaking her head she picked up the phone and dialed his number. She got the answering machine and left a message. “Kristian,” she said “Where are you? Is everything alright? Call me.” She hung up and tapped on her desk.

Bored she picked up the phone and hit the speed dial for her sister’s number. Two rings and a male voice answered the phone. “Hello.” He said.

“Hi, how are you? Who are you? Awe Myracle got a boyfriend. How cute.” She said.

“Excuse me?” He said.

“Just put my sister on. Guess you’re not too bright.” There were some sounds in the background and finally her sister’s voice sounded on the phone.

“Don’t call my man slow. What’s your problem?” She said. October knew that her sister was shaking her head and had her hand on her hip.

“Fix your posture I was just joking and if your shake your head that hard again you’ll break your neck.” She said smiling.

“Wipe that smile off your face and by the way you’re starting to sound like mom.” Both October and Myracle laughed. IT was good to laugh. October had trouble laughing lately. “So what’s up?” Myracle said.

“Nothing just bored. Client never showed up.”

“Oh yeah doesn’t that suck.”

“Actually it does.” October began. “Because I was looking forward to seeing the clients hot uncle.”

“Oh yes then it does suck. How’d that go last night?” Myracle questioned.

“The car stuff was horrible and I was horrified but he stayed over. I literally slept with him. Like actual sleep. It was weird but comfortable.”

“Now that’s something I haven’t heard of. Hot cop sleeps over October’s home and they only sleep.”

“Hey! You know I’m not like that.” October said pointing a finger at the phone.

“Don’t point at me! Beside I’m JUST JOKING… remember?” Myracle giggle and October rolled her eyes. “Anyway, have you gone on a date with this guy?”

“No... Should I?”

“Well… Does he kiss you and hold your hand? Do you like him?” Myracle questioned.

“Yes…”

“Then why not? Go for it. You finally get some thing out of your job other then the money you and I both know you don’t need.”

“Hey I like my job. I do something.” Just then the phone ranger and the caller ID announced that Kristian was on the other line. “Ok got to go. Bye, bye.”

“Wait, wait OCTOBER!” Then October hit the line two button.

“Hello Darling” She greeted him.

“Hey October.” His voice said.

“What’s up? Where are you? The hour is over I can no longer see Gabi because in a half hour I have another client.” She told him.

“We had a situation with Gabi and so we won’t be bringing her for a while. Her mother believes it would be best for her.” HE said sounding like he was gritting his teeth.

“Oh, that’s too bad…” October sighed. “Kristian can I ask you something?”

“Sure anything” He told her.

“Can we see each other even though I wont be seeing Gabi?”

There was a moment of silence and October thought she would hang up and go run into the bathroom and hide for ever. “Sure.” He finally said. “That would be great.”

“Great… very great.” She said large smile on her face. “Oh and also… Is the barbeque still on? My sister is quite excited about it.”

“Yes, for sure.” He said. “Ok well, I’m off. I’ll see you tomorrow. Say it starts around one, two-ish.”

“Yup” October hung up and squealed. She was happier then she’d ever been in the past. She really enjoyed being with Kristian and was extremely excited to hear that he wanted to see her more. Nothing could ruin this.

"October's Horror"

Chapter Six

Pulling into the drive way both Myracle and October sat and stared at the house they were raised in. The house looked the same on the outside but October knew that on the inside things were moved around and redecorated. October’s mother had a thing for making her home look different every month. Getting out of the car she practically ran to the door feeling proud that she beat Myracle to the porch. Smiling she felt young again.

Knocking on the door she stood with Myracle at her side waiting for some one to open the door. If October guessed correctly it would be Jonah answering the door. She knew that even if her mother was first to the door she would call him to answer the door. Finally the door swung open and Jonah jumped out smothering her in a large hug. “OCTOBER!” Jonah screamed.

“Hey Jonah!” October screamed back. With in a minute the hug was over and Myracle was now the one squirming in his arms.

“How about we go inside?” Myracle side still being squished and sounding breathless.

Together they all went inside. October threw her jacket onto the chair as they passed the living room and headed for the kitchen. Spotting her mom she went to her and hugged her. Her mother was in regular clothes and had an apron on top of it all. Her arms were covered in flour to her elbows and she had a bit of it on her nose. Her mother wasn’t the house wife type but she knew that ever so often she took the roll and cooked or baked with Jonah.

“What are you girls doing here?” Her mother asked.

“October is afraid she’s going to die so she wanted to see you guys.” Mracle said.

DAMM!!! Couldn’t Myracle listen to her once?! She really didn’t want her mother hearing about the cat and the threats. She just wanted to say she was in the neighborhood and that was that. Truly she did feel that way but her mother didn’t have to know.

“What makes you think your going to die?” her mother asked.

“Nothing, Myracle is lying. We were just in the neighborhood. We aren’t staying long though. Just thought we would stop by and say hello.” October lied.

“October I raised you. I know when you are lying. Is it anything serious? Should I be worried also? What’s going on?” Her mother inquired.

Hating Myracle for what she had said, October shook her head and began telling the story. Of course she left out the kiss and the barbeque. She told her mother only about the cat and the threat. That was all she needed to tell her.

“Well, doesn’t seem very threatening. I think you’ll be fine.” Her mother said washing her hands in the large kitchen sink.

“That’s what I think also.” Myracle said.

“Yeah, me three.” Jonah said.

To finalize it she said “I agree.” Just then her phone vibrated in her pocket and she pulled it out. Looking at the caller ID she smiled. Kristian.

************************************

Kristian shook his head as he stared down at what used to be October’s car. October had left it in the garage of her apartment building and some one had torched it. Up in flames it had exploded damaging three other cars and causing him yet even more paper work. “Come on people; let’s get this cleaned up faster. We have a garage to make available for tenants.”

“OH MY GOD!!!!” came a woman’s voice from behind him. Turning around he looked at October’s face. She bared the same look she had when she had found the cat. For a minute he waited for her to bolt for a bathroom but no shut thing came.

Walking to her he shoved his hands into his pocket and put on a cop face. The face that he knew no one could read. No one could tell him what he was thinking when he had that face. It was a facial expression he rather liked. Standing three feet away from her he shrugged his shoulders at her when her expression said who?

“I’m sorry. It must have happened while you were away. We know that it was started with a beer bottle a napkin and fire. The usual explosion used. We haven’t picked up any prints on the bottle and no one has seen anything. It seems like that person was pretty clean at his work.” He said.

“Wow, this is some crazy stuff October.” The voice caught his attention and for the first time he noticed the person standing behind October. She looked exactly like her. She was blonde. It was weird to see October’s face blonde with blue eyes. He didn’t think it could ever happen. She was beautiful also. In a different way she was beautiful. The October replica stepped in front of October and held out her hand. “Hi, I’m Myracle. October’s sister.”

Kristian shook her hand and nodded. “Nice to meet you” he muttered.

“Oh god. This is all so scary.” October said her voice weak.

“Seriously” Myracle said. “What are you going to do? You should come to my house for a while. Is her apartment damaged? No right?”

“No, there was no damage to her apartment flat. I don’t think she should go with you though. Her car was destroyed while she was away. Maybe her being home will scare the person off.” Kristian suggested.

“Well, I’m not staying here. I’m getting the creeps. Give me your apartment keys. I’ll put all the bags in your apartment and then I’m out.” Myracle said.

October reached into her pocket and pulled out keys. Her hand shaking she handed it to Myracle and they stood there for two silent moments while Myracle scurried away and disappeared.

“So… what’s in the bags?” Kristian asked.

“What? Oh, we went shopping today.” October said licking her lips.

Her hand was still shaking and she hadn’t blinked in a while. Sighing Kristian stepped closer to her and grabbed her hand. October looked down at their hands and blinked. This blink caused a tear to trickle down her cheek and had Kristian immediately drawing her into his arms.

“I’m so sorry this is happening October.” He whispered into her ear. Her hand let go of his and her arms curled around his neck.

*******************************************

Debra hit the power button on the remote and sighed. She wiped another tear from her eyes. The sight of her younger brother hugging the woman who had been bombed today was overwhelming. She just couldn’t believe what was going on. Shaking her head she got up and headed upstairs. Once up the stairs she entered Gabi’s room.

“Hey honey” Debra said to her daughter who lie on the bed with a book in her hands. When Gabi didn’t reply she simply shrugged and picked up the basket of dirty clothes she was going to wash. Her daughter had been quite quiet lately and it killed her. She knew that losing the cat the horrible way she did would effect her but she didn’t expect this.

As she thought about it the truth was Debra knew what happened to the cat. She knew the secret. She knew everything and it hurt her core but never would she tell. Never would she even utter those dammed words.

Leaving her daughters room she went down the steps carrying the clothes basket. She walked down steps till she finally was in the basement. Setting the basket down, she turned and retrieved some detergent. Opening the washing machine top she picked up some of the clothes. Wrinkling her nose she raised the clothes to her nose. Suddenly tears formed fast in her eyes and she began open mouth sobbing. Why?

*********************************************

Glancing around Gabi listened for her mother’s presence. Sensing she was in the basement Gabi grabbed the phone she had stuffed under her pillow. Picking up the phone she hit redial. Her mother had interrupted her and forced her to hang up on the first ring. Holding the phone to her ear she listened to it ring. Finally a female voice answered and Gabi froze. “Hello?” The woman said.

“Uh… Hi… Is Zee there?” Gabi asked.

“No… I don’t believe there is a Zee here… Hold on.” There was a ruffle in the background and then finally Zee came onto the phone. “Hello” he said.

“Are you with your sister right now?” Gabi asked her hand on her hip as though he could see her.

“No, that was my… girlfriend.” Gabi gasped. HOW COULD HE?!

”What?! Why?! I thought that if October kept her mouth closed you’d stay with me? If you already have a different girlfriend then why are you doing these things to October?! LEAVE HER ALONE!” Gabi said ending it with a growl as tears flowed down her cheeks and anger rushed through her body.

“Listen Gabi I have no idea what you are talking about. Don’t call me again. Your nuts and we could never be.” Then a click.

Gabi screamed and threw the phone. He was a jerk. He was the worst thing that had ever happened to her. He was the man she loved and she hated this fact. Why would he do this? Honestly, she thought that he loved her as much as she loved him. She thought everything would be ok. What was it that made him back away from her? The questions ran quickly threw her mind and Gabi began breathing fast and the room moved in circles as more tears rushed down her cheeks. Finally it all ended as the world blacked out and Gabi entered a state of nothingness. She felt herself collapse and from there all senses failed. She no longer heard or felt anything. Her vision went black. It was all happening again.

*******************************************

October sat on her couch in Kristians arms. She rested her head on his chest and thought about the previous events. She had spent the night answering questions and watching them chug what was left of her car away. It had been a long night and she was feeling especially bummed. Sitting with Kristian was soothing and she was enjoying it. She listened to the beats of his heart and the sounded he made as he took each breath.

“Kristian, do you think this person might actually kill me?” October asked looking up at him.

“No because we won’t let him.” Kristian told her.

October sighed. “I hate this. I hate it a lot. It’s all stupid.”

“I know. As a cop I witness a lot of thing that are just stupid. I only wish I could make a connection with the cat and your car. The notes.”

“Yeah, that would be nice.” October said lying. She knew the connection and she’d suspected it ever since the car ride to her garage with Myracle.

She had a theory that it was all linked to Gabi’s teacher. October planned to talk to Gabi about it and maybe even pay a visit to the teacher. Only she would never tell Kristian about him because she couldn’t tell Gabi’s secret. She didn’t want to. Gabi trusted her and she couldn’t do it to save her life which seemed in this case was exactly what she had to do.

Two minutes of silence spread between them until October heard the sound of Kristian breathing change and looked up to see that he had fallen asleep. Smiling October closed her eyes and let herself drift off to sleep where murders and car bombers could not find her.
