"Octobers Horror"

Chapter Nine

The car ride to October’s home was a thrill. All the ride October worried about Gabi. She thought about it and tried to figure out what was going through the young one’s mind. How could any of this happen? She herself had talked to her and the teen seemed harmless. How could she go out a kill some one? For a minute she worried that Debra was imagining it all. Her theory was proved wrong when just before they were set to leave Debra came flying down the steps with a diary.

The diary was an interesting thing to read. The writer in the diary did not say her name was Gabi but choose to be referred to as Angry Anne. October wondered how Gabi felt when she turned into Angry Anne. Sure enough October realized that this could possibly mean that Gabi had grown a second personality. She decided to set it aside for now as she was speeding down the streets going 70 mph.

October wasn’t worried about hitting any one because she had driven faster then this in worst condition. It was times like this she thanked god for ever making her date the NASCAR driver Derek. Derek was a big mistake but the lessons she got from him weren’t. Glancing at Kristian whose face had turned white she sighed and slowed down. She made the last and final turn onto her street and stopped dead in front of her building. Sitting there for two silent seconds she finally unbuckled. “Ok, this is the plan. We find her we keep her calm. Don’t make her angry that could be a trigger.”

“What if she’s already angry?” Kristian asked.

“Try your hardest to get Gabi back.” She said opening the door and jumped out. She trotted into the building and went straight for the elevator. Both of them took the elevator to her floor and exited quickly. October removed her keys from her pocket and stepped closer to her door. As she stepped more she realized she had stepped into a puddle that was pouring out from under her door. Kneeling down Kristian smelled the liquid, “Gas” he said.

Seriously worried she hurried to open the door. As she got the final lock open she swung the door open and a bucket came flying through the air, its contents drenching October in what smelled like gas also. Scared she heard Kristian scream no. Looking around she spotted where the bucket came from only to see Gabi smiling with a liter in her hands.

“GABI NO!!” Kristian screamed. Stepping back October stood speechless. The next few seconds could change her life for ever. “Please, Gabi no. Stop being angry. “

“I don’t want to. I’m tired of not being angry. Why can’t I be angry? Don’t tell me what to do uncle Kristian.” She replied

“Why are you angry at October? What did she do to you?” He questioned.

“What didn’t she do? She started it all. She messed up Gabi’s life. She told her… me to talk to Zee. I didn’t want to. Then he left me. He got a new girlfriend. He called GABI CRAZY!!!!” She yelled.

“Angry Anne GO AWAY.” October said. “I don’t like you. I like Gabi.”

“I don’t care what you like!” Gabi said in a loud tone raising her hand and popping the liter open. Just as she was about tot throw the liter Kristian screamed no and charged at her. There was a lot of stumbling and the floor lit on fire. Scared and confused October wanted to help she wanted to pull Gabi off of Kristian and help him but how could she with out going up in flames.

“OCTOBER RUN!” Came Kristian’s voice. It was then that she saw the fire spreading and racing its way toward her. Stunned she ran out of the apartment and into the stairwell. She shut the door behind her and leaned against it as she saw the smoke in the hall way. She felt completely helpless. She knew there was nothing she could do but she felt she had to do something. Reaching into her pocket she dialed her neighbor’s number. When her neighbor answered she yelled “FIRE!!!! Get something to put it out and fast!” Hanging up she dialed 911. She hoped with all her heart it wasn’t too late.

Staring at the flames and feeling the heat Kristian tried his best to hold onto his niece and find a way out. The door was no longer and option and he saw the living room go up in flames. Opening the bedroom door he closed it behind him. “This should buy us some time” He said breathless as he had already inhaled much smoke.

Looking around the room he spotted an open window. “Stay close to the ground. Smoke is still seeping into the cracks of the door and this is the best place to stay. Follow me to the window. We’ll go down the fire escape.” He said grabbing her hand.

In a minute they reached the window and Kristian directed Gabi to go out first. The heat was intense and the smoke amount had increased extremely quickly. He wondered is October was ok. He feared that the fire had reached her. How could his niece do all of this? She was simply a teenager.

“No.” Gabi said. “Uncle I don’t want to go.” She said. He could hear the door crackling as the fire fought to get in. Gabi sounded angry and he was unsure of what to say.

“If you don’t go now Gabi we’re going to die.” He said his tone hard and serious.

“I think I killed some one. I think there’s something wrong with me. My head hurts. The world goes black on me and every time I wake up I have to clean a mess up. This is a big mess Uncle Kristian. I don’t know if I could clean this one.” She said her tone soft once more.

“Gabi… don’t worry. You won’t have to clean it up on your own. We’ll all help you.” Gabi lunged at him and hugged him hard causing him to fall off the ledge and onto the fire escape. Getting up quickly he tried his best to close the window. He rushed Gabi down the creaky steps and each of them slowly jumped down from it. In the ally they looked up at the building. The window was black and smoke had completely entered the room. “Come on” he said as he heard the sirens and remembered that he still wasn’t sure October was ok. He didn’t know what he would do if she hadn’t made I tout. Possibly it could already be to late.

Walking around to the entrance he entered the building and decided it would be safer to take the steps. In the stairwell climbing up the steps he heard sobs. He hoped it was October. He didn’t like that she was crying but crying meant she was still alive and possibly not injured. Reaching the second floor he came in sight of October. She sat there her head buried in her arms and knees crying. She looked unharmed but very wet. “October” he said gaining her attention. Surprised she jumped up and ran to him. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her as close to himself as possible.

October kissed his neck and cheek softly multiple times as they stood there in each other’s arms. He held her for a minute before realizing that the building was still on fire. ”Come on” He whispered in her ear. “Let’s get out of here.” Kristian led the way out of the building and all three watched with all the tenants as the building bleed smoke from its windows. They watched firemen as they worked to tame the fire. 45545

It wasn’t till an hour later did the fire men have the fire under control. The entire time he stood with October who had insisted that she wanted to watch. She said she owed it to the home to stand by until it was all over. The entire time she stood with a blanket wrapped around her. He could only imagine how cold she felt with the October breeze blowing as she stood there still wet from the gas thrown on her.

Many things ran threw his mind but many things he wished he didn’t think of. One of the many things that he didn’t want to think about were Gabi. What would come of her? She had committed many things while she was Angry Anne that could not be undone. She had killed two people and committed arson. From what he heard nobody was hurt from the fire except for major smoke inhalation. The young girl had even committed animal cruelty. What could they do now?

“Uncle Kristian” Gabi said to him. Turning to her he signaled that she had his attention. “I told the cops what I did. They want to take me away. They say I’ll wait in jail until everything is figured out.”

Sighing he let go of October and pulled Gabi away from every one. “You remember what you did?” He asked. “Because we believe you have something wrong with you mentally Gabi. If that’s so you couldn’t control yourself and it’s not entirely your fault.”

“I black out Uncle Kristian. The world goes black and I don’t know what’s going on. I’m not me anymore. It’s scary” She said. “But I still want to go wit the police. Kristian… I killed some one. Two some ones. I want to be in a place that they could control me.” Gabi glanced down and looked up. “Please”

Sitting in the back of police car Gabi sat hand cuffed. She practiced her breathing and focused on staying calm. She felt the rage rush through her blood and she felt signs that she knew meant it was happening. She worried who she would hurt next because she knew that now the only person who she could get angry at was herself. She did this all to herself and she destroyed lives on the way down. It was all her fault.

Sighing once more she closed her eyes. She tried to relax but the images still haunted her. The memory of her clothes covered in Zee’s blood. The fear in October’s eyes as she ran away from the fire… It was all so over whelming. She wanted it all to go away.

It was times like this she wondered why. Before she had went to October’s she had visited a church. She went into the confessional and confessed of all things she had done. She had even confessed about her plans. Oddly the priest did not judge her. He told her that all will turn out the way it was planned. He told her that her life would be better so long as all of her actions were in the path of Christ. Then she had no intention of following his orders but as she thought about it now it seemed that god would be the only one there for her.

She could only imagine how angry her parents would be... How ashamed of her they would feel. She wondered how this all happened to her. She wondered what would happen next. Bowing her head down tears flowed down her cheeks as she prayed. She prayed for strength and to be forgiven. She prayed for the power to later salvage her life.

Sitting at her kitchen counter Debra rubbed her still flat stomach. Her baby was in there. She wondered what she was going to do. Her abortion was already set up planned for and paid for. She had it set up for no one to find out but now that some one had known she wondered if she could go through with it. She still was unsure if John even knew she was pregnant. As if on cue John walked into the kitchen. He stared at her for a minute then stepped closer. Wrapping his arms around her he held her there. He kissed her forehead and laid a hand on her stomach.

In his arms she let out the tears she had fought back for the last half hour. She held onto him tight. He was her armor and strength. He was the reason she could last another day in this world. Now that she thought about it she realized that this was his child also. It was like a piece of him inside of her stomach. Of course she had thought of all of this during her first pregnancy but never had she once considered an abortion the first time. Suddenly a sound broke her thought process.

It was the sound of John sucking in air. Looking up she found a man whose face had sorrow written on it. His eyes for the first time ever had tears in them. His face showed his pain and he did not look at her. “Don’t do it... Please” he said rubbing her stomach once more.

Debra was lost of all words and for a second she held her breath. She had never seen him like this. He was always strong and never had he ever broke down like this. It hurt her more then ever to see him like this. How could she do this to him? Of course she couldn’t now. She couldn’t ever. Paid for or not this abortion would not happen.

“Wow… It’s so tiring being covered in gas. Always have to worry about where the fire is. It’s hard on a girl you know?” October said hoping she would break the tense moment in Kristian’s car with humor.

“Yeah... It’s been a long day you know. I’m just glad it’s all over. We won’t have to worry about Gaby for a while. It’s going to be a long and hard process getting everything worked out.”

“Yes that it will be. You know what the worst of it all is?” October questioned Kristian.

“Hit me” he said to her.

“I didn’t get to go into a pool.” She said smiling at him.

Kristian smiled back and started up the car. He looked at her for a bit then pulled out of the parking spot they were in. He drove for about twenty minutes until they pulled up to Debra and john’s home. Shaking her head she knew exactly what he was going to suggest. “No…” she said “we can’t”

Kristian jumped out of the car and came to her side where she was already out of the car. “Come on!” he said running to the back of the home. October followed him and watched him quietly open the gate door. Standing in front of the pool Kristian looked at her. She watched him take his shirt off and shoes. “Well… don’t you want to get all that gas off of you?” he asked after winking. Before she knew it he was lunging himself into the pool. Laughing she shook her head and looked up at the sky. What was she to do with this man?

Quickly October took off her sandals and jumped into the water. Rising from the bottom of the water she looked around the dark pool. Searching for his face she squinted into the night. “marko?” she said.

“Polo” came a response from behind her. Laughing she turned around and found her Kristian. Sighing she swam to him. His arms embraced her and he kissed her. His kiss was soft and fast. Looking into his beautiful blue eyes she smiled. She loved his eyes. They were in fact her favorite type of blue. Dark and sexy. Sighing she used her hand to brush back some of his short hairs. At first look it seemed like nothing good had came of this horrible month but if you actually paid attention as October did. The greatest thing came from this. Kristian.
