"When You Want Her Back..."

Chapter Three.

Bret let out a breath before he knocked on Rosa's door.

"Come in," he heard her call out before he entered. Rosa had the blue room, a cozy, regular room. Bret never liked the whole theme for every room, but Jackie had insisted it was how the house be designed. So, he agreed. Bret walked in to see Rosa on the bed reading a book.

Rosa looked up and smiled, "Hey Bret, what brings you here in the wee hours of the day?"

Bret laughed,"You mean two in the afternoon?" He laughed again and Rosa joined.

"Well, Hana was sleeping and I was just thinking," Bret paused as the look of Uh-oh hit Rosa's face.

"I was thinking that we need to make her feel more welcomed.Gina told me she was freshly taken away from her mother. She said she might have a hard time, and I'm just trying to make it easier. I love this girl, and I want her to feel at home."

"Bret, she's already calling you daddy"

"Yes, true, but Rosa, she can call me Daddy. What do I do when she ask about a mommy, like she just did?" Bret looked away from Rosa, but knew she read his mind.

Shaking her head Rosa put her book down and got up from the bed. "When she asks who her mother is now. You tell her the truth. She doesn't have one, but you make sure she knows that she won't need one. You are all that girl will ever need. Your love IS enough. She doesn't need a mother."

"Rosa every child needs a mother."

"She will get one in time. That is if you get over Jackie, and move on! Jackie was your fiance, and I understand you might still have feelings for her. Truthfully, I think you know deep down in your heart you didn't love her. She was a gold digger, Bret. Don't let her get your child, your money, and your future. Because, that Bret, is the one thing you do control."

"Okay, okay, Rosa, I get it. So, I should get back in the dating game?"

"Yes, most definately."

Bret nodded his head at Rosa and simply said, "Ok then, dating here I come." Bret realized that once again Rosa was right. Walking out of her room, he made a mental note to give her a day off. Really a man couldn't ask for a better maid or friend. Bret decided that dating wouldn't be easy, and his first thought would be to start off small and easy. Bret chose the internet. Entering his room and heading for his desk, he summed up the woman he wanted.

Bret logged into a local dating site. He entered what he was looking for and read the list out loud:

"1. Must be intelligent-(need to have a decent convo)
2. Slim average body.-(I want hold you)
3.Hair long and silky.-(So I can run my finger through your hair, and you don't end up bald.)
4.Needs to like kids-(A MUST)
5.Healthy eating habits and keeps clean-(no nasty stuff)"
Bret nodded his head, to him it sounded like a decent and simple wish list for a woman. Surely, there was at least one someone who would fit that description. AT LEAST ONE.
********************************

"So, have you found Hana yet?" Lena asked her sister sitting on the couch, flipping through a magazine, and taking a bite of an apple. April did not believe how calm her sister was. Her daughter was taken away and she was looking at a magazine? April did not approve, but didn't want to get Lena angry once again. So, she simply gave it a shame-on-you stamp and moved on.

"Oh wow, well how am i supposed to do all that?" Lena asked.

"No Lena, I called the services. They say that you couldn't possibly get her back until you have a job, an apartment, are healthy, have an extra room for Hana, AND if she has already been adopted, then fought for in the court of law."

Lena looked surprised. April could have guessed that her sister thought it would be easy to get her daughter back. Sure enough, April knew Lena would try to pin all the work on her. NOT THIS TIME. Their whole entire life, Lena had always taken the easy way and April had lugged her weight around with hard work and determination. Of course, in most cases the eldest was like that.

April just simply rolled her eyes and said, "There's this thing normal people do. It's called work! GET UP! You want your daughter you get up and look for a job. I AM NOT going to help you take this child away from a happy home when you are clearly not ready to have her back. Truthfully, I don't think the law will either."
Lena seemed offended at April's words, but none the less turned around and ate more of her apple. Maybe she was just hungry or maybe she was holding back words she knew wouldn't get her any help, but April knew either way by eating her apple she had just avioded a large conflict. All April thought was SMART MOVE.

Turning away from her sister and back to the screen with the file of her book, April began to check her email. The trip to Reno was great and truly helpful in the series she was planning, but the Lena was holding her back. With her sister around, her head was clogged. With the thought of Hana nothing could get in. Or out. Hana was her niece and she had longed to have one. Being an aunt meant a lot to her and she couldn't help but hate her sister for keeping this family from her.She would have been there for her and come to her resue when Luther died.

When she needed some one to hold her together. But, of course, as usual Lena never wanted April there for anything but help in things she couldn't handle.
April's thoughts were interrupted with the sound of "You've got mail". April looked at the first letter and realized it was from the dating service she had joined a month ago. April had joined it in the hopes of finding a man who could help to create a better character for her story, but no man had appealed to her. Since then, she had just forgotten about the membership all together. April's eyes widened at the sight of the hunk whose female criteria she had met. Quickly, she skimmed through his profile. "SIX FEET! Brown hair, hazel green eyes, SINGLE PARENT?" she said out loud. Sighing, she read through the rest. This man seemed perfect and she was really interested, but how could she handle him being a single parent? She loved kids, but wasn't ready to date a single parent. Just as April was about to close out and move onto the next email, she read where it said "I ADOPTED MY CHILD" in bold proud letters. This factor changed everything.

This made Bret McAllister sweet and giving. This made him PERFECT. Clicking on send message, April began her letter to the sweet man who she hoped had a future with her.
