Chapter Five
Seven O’clock and Kristian was standing out side of Gabi’s room door. He decided that since she mostly spoke to him in car rides why not catch her early and take her to school. Finally the door open and Gabi looked up to him only to roll her eyes. Obviously Gabi wasn’t too fond of his plan. Gabi’s eyes were red and her hair was looking terrible. Unsure whether Gabi had even woken up yet he cleared his throat and she turned around to him her posture slumping. “what?” she said half growl.
“Don’t answer me like that.” He said simply but not raising his voice or seeming angered. “Are you ok? Are you ready for school?”
“Yes, what do you think? I came out here for nothing. Get in the car and take me to school already!” Gabi’s voice was rough and angered. This voice he had never heard before. Gabi always had that sweet voice. Even when she would yell it was still soft. This was utterly different.
“I’m ignoring this Gabi. I’m going to give you a break because you just lost your cat but you better not yell at me like this again. I’ll be waiting in the car” He said walking past her feeling her eyes burn a hole in his back. Walking down the steps quickly he rushed his way into the kitchen where he knew Debra would be. “Debra… There’s something wrong with Gabi.”
“Well, we just lost our cat Kristian. There’s something wrong with all of us.” She said wiping at her nose with a napkin. “I loved that cat Kristian. So did Gabi, I know this for sure.”
“Yeah, well I feel she is taking it differently.” He said looking around for signs of Gabi coming. He definitely didn’t want her hearing this conversation.
“Well, what am I supposed to do Kristian? Send her to a Therapist… cause I got news for you Kristian… I’m already trying that.” Her voice shook and Kristian could pick up a sign of fear in it. Unsure of what was going on he hugged his sister and exited the kitchen.
Getting into the car he put the key into the ignition and started the car. Suddenly a voice startled him when he heard “Drive!”. Looking to the passengers side Kristian discovered Gabi sitting there. Startled he drove just as she commended. What the hell was going on?
“Well, Kristian… Talk. I know that’s why you were here. Question me like the rat you are.” Gabi said more growls following it.
“Uncle Kristian. Stop Growling. What’s going on?” He asked driving slowly so that the trip to her school wouldn’t end before he’d done what he needed to.
“Everything obviously, dumb cat is dead and my dammed therapist is freaked out.” She said looking out the window.
“About October… Do you have any idea who would threaten her?” HE asked voice soft hoping not to trigger something worse then what was going on with Gabi. It seemed her mood was worse then ever. Everything she was skeptical of and he knew that this kind of attitude was like walking through a mine field blind. At any moment you step on the wrong topic and she could explode.
“Yes…… NO.” Just then the school building came into view. Kristian stopped in front of the school and watched as Gabi exited saying “See you Kristian” and slamming the car door.
Confused he sighed and headed toward the precinct. What was going on with his niece?

The world spin as Gabi walked through the halls. Unsure of what was going on she ducked into the girl’s bathroom. Anger heated in her body and she longed to remove it. Something inside of her yelled and screamed. She fought it with all her might. This morning unfortunately she felt it take over again. She felt it lead her actions. She watched her self be mean to the uncle she adored. Inside she yelled at herself to stop but nothing worked. What was going on?
Tears now running down her face the anger arose again. She hated this anger that lay deep inside her. Like an uncontrollable dog. She just wanted it all to stop. The world span faster and faster as tears remained flowing down her cheeks. Finally it all stopped and Gabi began to walk to a place she did not know where she was going. The anger had taken over once more. At that moment inside herself she prayed it would stop.
Stomping out of the girl’s bathroom she trotted her way to Zee’s classroom. Kicking the door she screamed “Zee!!!”
Quickly the door opened and he stepped out excusing himself from the class he had. The halls were empty for ever kid was now in there home room classroom. Every kid but Gabi. This was where her anger had led her. To HIM. Her head thumped and thumped and she demanded she have some control.
“What are you doing? Are you crazy? Why are you interrupting my class like that?” Looking around he whispered. “You know not to call me Zee in school”
Gabi shook her head no longer caring how loud she was and what person heard. “I KNOW YOU KILLED MY CAT ZEE! I KNOW IT!”
“What the hell are you talking about? I didn’t kill your cat.” He said voice calm. This fact angering Gabi even more.
“LEAVE OCTOBER ALONE!” Gabi yelled clenching fist feeling the rage amp her to attack him.
“Listen Gabi, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you should go home. Get some rest.” He said lay a palm on her forehead.
Screaming she grabbed his hand and clawed at it with her nails hoping to have some effect. Quickly he pulled his hand away and held it. “YOU’RE CRAZY!” he said. Cowardly he ran into his classroom.
Knowing well enough that he would for sure call some one Gabi fled. She ran out of the school and started walking. Crying now she walked a slow walk completely confused. Her chest hurt and her brain thumped. Finally her legs gave out and she sat on the corner two blocks away from her school tears shedding down her face and a world that blackened more and more. Surrounding her in black and pain.

“So you canceled everything I had on my plans today right?” October asked the secretary she spoke with over the phone. Today she needed to reboot. She needed to relax spend money and prepare for the barbeque. Of course she decided to do this with Myracle. Her chill pal all the way.
“Yes ma’am will there be anything else?” The secretary asked.
“Yes… Call me October please.” October hung up the phone and looked at her sister standing there fluffing her hair. Myracle was looking into a mirror she hung on the wall for no reason but for decoration. Thinking about it she realized most of her apartment was just decoration and nothing looked homey. Maybe today she would make it look homey.
As a child at her home they always had a cookie jar on top of the refrigerator and a bunch of pictures framed and hung. Now that October looked around she didn’t own many pictures frames and wasn’t even close to own a cookie jar. Maybe she would buy that today.
“So we going or what?” Myracle asked.
“Yes, yes, we are going. How about you drive?” October was still tired from staying up all night wondering what was going to happen next. Mostly all she thought of was next would be her time to die. Everything she did she did with caution.
This morning October had smelled for gas and had requested the land lord add another lock to her door. A bolt lock of course. Now she feared of using her car. Fear wasn’t something that easily ran through October. Usually she locked it out. Only now it seemed extra hard.
Grabbing her purse and jacket as usual she walked out of the door and waited for her sister to follow. She locked all locks and headed for the stair well. Her sister beside her she exited the building and went straight for Myracle’s BMW. The car was quite spiffy but October wasn’t impressed. Myracle had not worked for it and there for the car was worthless to her.
“Head to the mall. We have to get bathing suits. Then afterwards… we have to buy more stuff.” October said.
“Wow,” Myracle said starting the engine and pulling out of the parking spot. “You must have had a long day or night or something to want to go shopping like that. I know you and you’d never just go shopping for no reason.”
“Yeah, I did. Some one sent me a dead cat in that box you brought up earlier yesterday.” October said not even noticing her sisters response.
Abruptly the car stopped and Myracle jumped out of the car. “AH! Oh My Goodness! I have dead cat kooties! AH! That’s disgusting! Oh my!” Her sister jumped up and down flapping her arms and shivering.
“Yeah, get over it. Get in the car and drive so we can go shopping already.” October said leaning back in her seat and sighing.
Her sister entered the car and drove just as October had requested.
“So,” her sister began unfortunately. “How’s the diet coming?”
”Great, images of the cat have me not eating. I haven’t ate anything since last night.” October said rubbing her stomach that also hadn’t rumbled since last night.
Then she remembered it. The kiss. Last night Kristian had kissed her. In return she had kissed him. The kiss was passionate and everything she had never felt in a kiss before. His kiss was accurate and left her searching for more not caring about consequences. That in turn was a bad thing. She didn’t need another guy making her do things irresponsibly. It wasn’t safe.
“Maybe you should eat something. I think you’re turning red.” Myracle said glancing from her multiple times to the road ahead of her.
“No, that’s not it. I was thinking of something.”
“Oh really? Then your blushing? Oh gee.” Myracle laughed and said “who?”
“Kristian. Last night he kissed me. Gosh that man can kiss amazingly.” October said.
“Really? Maybe I need to find out for myself in that case… ditch the date!” October’s mouth fell open and she was utterly shocked. Never had her sister said anything like this. “I’m kidding! Jeeze, can’t you take a joke? You must really like this guy.”
“Yes Myracle I honestly do really like him. I have to get myself a new bathing suit for the barbeque. The barbeque is gonna be a pool one.” October said half resenting what she was saying.
“Really? GREAT! It gives us an even better reason to go ona diet. Even if you just loose two pounds before the barbeque. It is still two pounds you don’t have to worry about.”
“Myracle we both weigh the same and we are both fairly skinny. I’m pretty sure we don’t have to go on a diet.” October said argueing with her sister.
“Oh PLEASE! I just really need to loose some weight to fit into this fabulous gown and I don’t want to do it myself.” Myracle confessed.
“A gown for what?”
“Ok well maybe not a gown. I didn’t mean to say gown. I meant to say outfit. I just really need to fit into it.”
“FOR WHAT?!” October asked once again.
“Because I want to look better then the girls at the play boy mansion where I was invited to a party and where the hottest of guys will be!” October laughed outrageously at her sister’s words.
“I’m not going on a diet for you to prance around in the play boy mansion looking good.” October said skeptical and shaking her head at the horrible thought.
“PLEASE! What if you die tomorrow? What if you die tomorrow and the last memory I have of you is denying me one wish? What if I die tomorrow?! You just wouldn’t go on the diet with me!” Myracle said slamming her hand on the wheel.
Her words replayed over and over in October’s head. Chanting and mocking her about dying. What if she did die tomorrow? What would be left to say of her life but a large bank account? She only had her family and even then she never visited her parents much. What about Jonah? If she died he would be forced to live with Myracle as his only sister. October held back the tears and said “Fine, I’ll go on a diet with you.”
Smiling Myracle pulled into the mall parking lot and parked. She jumped out and October followed. Thinking now she realized maybe shopping wouldn’t make her as happy as she had thought.
