"Myracles Happen"
Chapter Two
Memories of the long and painful night flashed into Myracle’s mind. Regret and rage ran through her blood as she turned over in her bed to feel the pain. The blow to her ribs was ten times as painful as the hit on her face. How could he do this? When you thought you knew a person so well. When you thought you loved them and they loved you back. How could this all happen?
Myracle thought of the words they exchanged as the situation replayed in her mind for maybe the ten-hundredth time.
“Where were you? Myracle I’m tired of this.” Brian said to her.
“Tired of what?” she asked but of course clueless because that was the way she had lead most of her life: Clueless to her surroundings the blonde that she had become.
“I’m tired of you! I’m tired of us together. I’m tired of your world and needs. You’re killing me!” He yelled taking a step forward which looked more like a wobble.
“Let’s sit down and talk about this Brian. I think it’s just your job. You’re over worked. We can sort this out.” She said.
Suddenly Brian took quick but certainly not steady steps toward her. He grabbed her arms and squeezed them tight. “Don’t you get it Myracle? I don’t love you! You’re nothing like the woman I want to marry!”
Looking down at his hands holding her wrists squeezing them causing her so much pain then looking back at him it occurred to her. He was drunk. And suddenly that’s when it came. The punch to her ribs… the end of her world. Strong sobs came out of her mouth and tears raced down her cheeks.
Lying now in her own bed in a room that once was so bright yet now seemed so dark she stared into the nothingness of her ceiling. It was two in the afternoon and all she had done the whole day was lay there. She lay in her bed staring at the ceiling. Some times the tears stopped and other times they randomly came more then she could handle and she found herself struggling to breath but at the same time smothering her face in the pillow.
It occurred to her an hour ago that she had to pee. She had to eat. That no matter what he did to her she was still human and needed to continue her ways. But she feared that if she went into the bathroom she’d see the marks his fist made in the mirror. If she ate it would hurt to swallow from the crying that had her throat and mouth so dry.
She wondered when he would realize what he did to her. Wondered when he would wake up and realize the pain he’d just done to her. Mostly she wondered what she would do next. Her heart wanted to call October but she couldn’t. She just couldn’t go to October like this. October would kill him... or worse... Tell Kristian. If October told Kristian and Kristian arrested Brian what would she do? Her mind told her that common sense says that that’s what she wanted, but the love in her heart told her she wanted to forgive him.
How could she forgive him? He hit her. He took his hand and punched her. Not once… But twice. A man does not do that to a woman no matter how much liquor he had consumed.
Suddenly the phone rang and she jumped. She looked at the bed side caller
Staring at the caller ID she let the phone ring. After seven rings her answering machine picked it up and she laid her head relaxed on her pillow. Breathing slowly she tried her hardest not to cry. She closed her eyes and suddenly an image of his fist coming to her face flashed before her closed eyes and she opened her eyes. Once again God, she said to herself, why did this happen to me?

October glanced at her phone once more. No call back or anything from Myracle. Biting down on her lip she pondered why it bothered her. Her sister and she talked about once or twice a week. She’s called Myracle before and had a no answer. She’s even taken days to call October back. So now, she wondered, why was it bothering her? Something wasn’t right here.
Picking up the phone she dialed Kristian. She had an appointment with the doctor and really couldn’t leave and return but she had to have some one check in on Myracle.
The phone rang about two times and he answered. “Hello” he said.
“Kristian you have to check on Myracle.” She said quickly.
“Well, I’m good, how are you? I love you too October.” He said. She knew he was smiling but the problem was she wasn’t.
“Kristian…” she said.
“Whats wrong?” he asked.
“I don’t know.” She said watching the mother and daughter take a seat across from her in the waiting room.
“Why do you want me to check on her?” he asked.
“Because I have a feeling.”
“A feeling?” he asked emphasizing the need to have an explanation.
She sighed a frustrated worried sigh. “Yes, a feeling. It’s like some how, some way, I know there is something wrong with her. It’s this intuition I have where no matter how little contact I’ve had with her… In the end... I still know there is something wrong”
“And you want me to take some time aside from my duties to check on her? Go to her apartment?” he asked.
“Yes... Please?”
“Ok… I’ll do it because I love you so much you know I’d do anything for you.” October smiled at his words.
“really?” she said.
“Yes, which is why I believe you should marry me.” October laughed at his words yet she knew in her heart he meant it. He had proposed before but she said that she wasn’t ready. Ever since he implied marriage every chance he had. Of course this still hadn’t changed October’s mind. Something stopped her from saying yes. She couldn’t name it but it was there.
Smiling to play it off she said “Kristian... just go check on Myracle.” October hung up and looked out into her surrounding. Many people sitting in this one room waiting for the doctor to call their name. All of them more then likely counting how many people went before them. Hopefully it wouldn’t be long till they called her name. Just then the doctor called out the name October.
October rose and walked to the doctor arriving near him at the same time as a tiny girl. The girl said “Is your name October too?” October smiled at the girl. She’d never met anyone else named October.

“Aw, Kristian. How sweet. I’m so impressed I think I want to marry you! Marry me? Please Kristian!” Officer Camdyn said to Kristian.
“Yeah, yeah, what ever. You’re just mocking me because you don’t have what I have.” Kristian said in defense. Kristian glanced at his temp partner then quickly turned back to the road. His partner’s face bared a very cocky smile.
“You mean to say that I am JEALOUS because I don’t have a collar around my neck and a woman I’m begging to marry me?” Camdyn asked sarcasm in his voice.
“Listen October is amazing ok. I know I love her.” Kristian said while making a turn counting down the time it took to get to Myracle’s home where he could leave his partner in the car.
“You’ve known her for three months. How could you know you love her?” He said.
“I just do. Hate to sound cliché but I think this is just one of those things where you’ll understand when it happens to you.” Kristian said to his partner while making the last turn in the ride. Kristian pulled up to the home of Myracle Bennet.
Opening the car door he jumped out. He stepped away from the car and felt the stress of being near his partner leave him. Stepping up to her porch he rang the bell. Myracle lived in an ordinary nice looking home. She lived with other ordinary rich people who also just happen to be single. It was sort of one of those communities where every one is rich yet no one is famous. The houses match and everybody knows everybody. Yet, unlike married rich homes the homes aren’t humongous and most of them own convertibles and almost every one doesn’t like anyone in the community they have come to know. In Kristian’s opinion it was pretty close to
No one answered so Kristian walked to the side of the porch and looked over the side of the home. Her convertible was still there. Returning to the door he rang the bell again and knocked. Waiting a few minutes no one answered. Looking around for a frog or fake dog poop for a spare key he found none. Reaching above the door he felt around and hit the jackpot. He found the key and opened the door. Stepping inside he realized there was no light in the home. All shades were drawn and no lights were on.
“Myracle?” he called out.
“I’m coming” he heard her reply.
“So you are alive!” he said closing the door behind him. “October sent me over. Said she had a FEELING. Just need to know that you’re ok and ill be on my way.” He said to her yet feeling like he was actually talking to himself. Finally Myracle popped her head out of her head out of a near bathroom.
“I’m fine” she said. She let the silence sit between them then glanced at the door and back to him.
“Ok then, well call your sister. She’s worried. She has feelings you know.” He said smiling and opening the door. When he opened the door the sun light came blasting in and hit Myracle’s face directly highlighting the swollen lip and bruised eye. Both things he hadn’t seen in her dark home.
“Wow…” he said. Letting go of the door he stepped forward. “What happened?”
Kristian kept moving toward Myracle. “Oh nothing just a little argument. No big deal.”
“Looks like a big deal. You had an Argument with whom?” There was hesitation in Myracle’s blue eyes and a slight hint of fear. Shaking his head Kristian hoped the answer wasn’t male. “Who?” he said once more.
“Brian…” there was a shocking moment in between heart beats and both of them said nothing. That moment passed quickly and Kritsian found himself standing right in front of Myracle. His jaw was set in anger and his eyes were demanding.
“He hit you?” Kristian asked.
“Yes… but Kristian he was drunk. He didn’t mean it. So please just let it go.” She said her eyes already seeming moist.
“I’m not letting this go Myracle. He hit you… You don’t just let it go. As a cop I can’t beat the living pulp out of him but I will recommend you file assault. Take his ass to court and let the judge throw him in jail.
“I don’t think I want to Kristian.”
“What do you mean you don’t want to? Have you looked in a mirror? Myracle… you’re like family to me. Please listen to me. We can get him for this.” His voice was reassuring. Suddenly Myracle’s bottom lip trembled and she threw her arms around him. She hugged him tight as sobs rushed out of her mouth.
“It hurts Kristian.” She said. Kristian hugged her back and nodded his head. For minutes Kristian stood there letting her cry on his shoulder. He thought of what Brian did. He wondered how Brian could do it. Kristian loved October and would never even think of hurting her. Kristian couldn’t hurt any woman.
************************************************
Just then October came through the door. She went straight for his table and sat down across from him. “Hey” she said smiling at him. There was something about her that seemed upbeat.
“What’s up? He said.
“Oh nothing… Just got back from the doctor. Just a regular check up. Went great. Now I am ready for coffee!” she looked at the counter and reached for her bag.
She looked through her bag but suddenly stopped and pulled out her cell phone. She looked at her caller ID and her smile disappeared. She flipped the phone open and waited for the caller to say something. She simply said “I’m on my way” and hung up the phone.
“Listen
“October” he called out.
“Yes?” she said turning back to him. He looked down at the twenty and back up at her. /it was then he knew October realized there was no bill for her to put money down on.
Sucking her teeth she grabbed the twenty and rush out of the shop.
